Description of Various Hotels
When describing various hotels, I limit myself to a selection of establishments that are truly recommendable.
The Hilton Group deserves its own section in this description of various hotels. I can justify this with a nice story that my wife and I experienced at the beginning of this millennium.
We were attending a trade fair in the United Arab Emirates and had chosen the Hilton Dubai Jumeirah for our few days’ stay. It was actually our first time staying at a hotel in this chain. When we checked in at the lobby, we were asked to go to one of the top floors to complete the check-in process. Once there, we were informed that we had access to the Executive Lounge. At that point, we didn’t really know what to make of this information.
Our room turned out to be a corner suite. We were more than surprised by this, as we had only booked a standard room. When we went to the reception on the top floor to clear up this misunderstanding, we were informed that we had been upgraded, which gave us all these amenities. This included, for example, coffee, tea and soft drinks as well as snacks in the lounge throughout the day, and a “pre-dinner” with food and alcoholic beverages in the evening.

And then I remember something else: one afternoon, we were on our way to the pool and wanted to get towels from the designated booth. The employee who handed out the towels asked me for my room number. So I said, “It’s number 501.” The reply came immediately: “Not your jeans, sir, your room number!” And laughing, he handed me two fresh, rolled-up towels.
To cut a long story short: with these surprising and no less remarkable memories in mind, we started booking mainly Hilton Group hotels wherever they were available. Unfortunately, it took me almost 20 years to come up with the idea of starting this blog, in which I decided to focus on Hilton hotels in addition to describing various other hotels.
In the meantime, we have come to know Hilton hotels all over the world, some better than others – fortunately, most of them are good or very good establishments.
However, as there are of course many other wonderful places to stay besides the houses in this group, I will now also describe various hotels that we particularly liked.
