DoubleTree by Hilton Skopje

Location

The DoubleTree by Hilton Skopje is conveniently located on the banks of the Vardar River, just a few kilometres from the city centre of Skopje. The hotel is within easy reach of the main transport links and is easily accessible for both business travellers and tourists.

Skopje International Airport is about a 20-minute drive away. There are shopping centres and attractions in the immediate vicinity, providing quick access to the urban amenities of the capital of North Macedonia.

Equipment

The hotel offers a modern and stylish interior that combines both comfort and elegance. There is a large conference centre with several function rooms that are ideal for meetings and events.

The guest rooms are mostly spacious and feature modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, desks and luxurious bathrooms. The hotel also offers suites with even more space and comfort.

Unfortunately, the bar on the top floor was closed, so we couldn’t judge it.

The hotel also has a gym and a luxurious spa with an indoor pool where you can relax and recharge your batteries. The latter can be reached via the basement, where the underground car park is also located. This ideally complements the ample parking space around the building. We were not charged for using the car park!

Amenities

At the DoubleTree by Hilton Skopje you are greeted with the brand’s typical warm cookie. The hotel attaches great importance to first-class service and comfort. You can dine in the hotel’s restaurant, which offers both international and local cuisine, or enjoy a drink in the chic bar.

At the end of this article, I would like to make a few comments on both the stay at the bar and the food in the restaurant. It’s worth mentioning the relatively good selection of spirits and other drinks at the bar as well as the friendly and pleasant service.

On the other hand, both the range of different dishes on offer and – even more importantly – the quality of the cuisine should be emphasised positively. The prices are above the national average, but are quite appropriate and reasonable for the hotel.

The 24-hour room service ensures that you are well looked after at all times. For business travellers, there is also a business centre and numerous work facilities in the hotel. Car parking and a shuttle service are also available.

Activities in the neighbourhood

There are many things to do in the area surrounding the hotel. You can visit the historic city centre of Skopje, which is only a few minutes away and offers sights such as the Stone Bridge, the Kale Fortress and the Old Bazaar.

The Macedonian National Museum is also nearby. The surrounding area also offers shopping opportunities in nearby shopping centres and outdoor activities such as walks along the Vardar River. You can also go on day trips to the nearby mountains or the Matka Canyon.

Others

The hotel is also an excellent choice for events, as it offers modern conference and banqueting facilities with state-of-the-art technology. Weddings and large celebrations can be organised here in style. The hotel also attaches great importance to accessibility, so that guests with special needs can also have a pleasant time at the DoubleTree by Hilton Skopje.

What we found somewhat unpleasant was the enormous background noise in the bar and restaurant area. The noise insulation here could be greatly improved. We just wanted to have a quiet drink at the bar and fled after a few minutes from the incredible noise caused by the animated conversation of perhaps ten people alone.

At the neighbouring table in the restaurant, someone just moved his chair a little and it was so unpleasantly loud that my ears rang afterwards! Only next to the bar area is a room with upholstered furniture and carpet, where the background noise is bearable. In the end, we fled there to enjoy another drink in “peace and quiet”.
